I’m
Steve Lee and I’d first of all like to thank you
for taking a look at this report.
I’ve been in the golf business for many years
and during that time I’ve come into contact with
golfers of all abilities from beginner to Tour
pro.
I once even managed to extract a little
information from the great man himself, Tiger
Woods; information that to most would be quite
trivial, I imagine, but for me it was crucial to
furthering my knowledge about the game and its
greatest exponents; knowledge that I subsequently
used to help many other players from beginner to
pro and that I can now pass on to you to help your
golf game. I’ll tell you more about what I asked
him and his reply later in the report.
In the meantime I’ll give you a little more
information about me and why I believe reading
this can help your golf.
I first became professionally involved in the game
after having a lesson with a young teaching pro
whose golf swing advice taught me that there was more to playing good
golf than a good golf swing or even the right
mental approach. In fact, the lesson had such an
impact on me that I changed career as a result! A
summary of that lesson is included later in this
report and it will, I hope, be an eye-opener.
I specialise in golf club technology and have
fitted hundreds of players with custom golf clubs.
Such was (and still is) my enthusiasm, that I
became just like the compulsive autograph hunters
that hang out at tournaments to get the signatures
of the best players in the world; but it wasn’t
autographs I was after; I wanted to know about the
clubs these guys were using. Which shafts? How
were the clubs set up? Why was there more bounce
on their sand wedge at this tournament than the
last one?
I am privileged to have learnt my trade from a guy
who was one of the top ‘club men’ on Tour,
originally looking after the Hogan staff players
before deciding to decline an invitation to join
Callaway and ‘retire’ instead to Northern
England where he set up his own driving range and
custom golf clubs business.
This report is about far more than just
club-fitting, however, although I strongly believe
that good golf swing advice should include what is
arguably the most important component of
playing the best golf we are capable of playing is
the correct – but not necessarily the most
expensive- golf equipment.
Before I get into the ‘guts’ of what I want to
say, though, I’ll give you a short overview of
some of the things we’ll be looking at.
There’s a raft of information out there about
such things as improving your golf swing, advice
on hitting
the ball further and so on but, as far as possible,
I don’t want to regurgitate what you can readily
read elsewhere. Much of what I’ll be covering,
therefore, will involve small details or
little-thought-about ideas which are usually
simple, will help you play better, but are often
if not always overlooked.
The report is broken down into the following
Sections which are brief and to the point:
Golf
Equipment
Golf
Lessons
Putting
Other
I
In the ‘Golf Equipment’ Section, for example,
I’ll be discussing such issues as what to be
aware of with your existing clubs, what you should
consider if you’re thinking about buying a new
set, and so on.
In
the ‘Golf Lessons’ Section, I’ll be
discussing issues such as what to look for in a
teaching pro, good and bad golf swing advice, what to avoid and a novel way of
finding how to grip the club that’s best for
you.
The ‘Putting’ Section will discuss something
almost invariably ignored but of vital importance
if you want to be a better putter.
And finally, the ‘Other’ Section will take a
look at ‘odd’ matters such as recent
technology, a little bit of the mental
‘stuff’, the importance of the rules in
improving your scores, and what it wasTiger Woods
said to me about his clubs that I subsequently
used to help many other players from beginner to
pro.

Some
of what is contained in this report has been
published recently so I apologise in advance if
there are parts you may have already come across
before. I hope you’ll understand that I’m not
so immodest as to think everyone that reads this
will have read what has been previously published!
Having said that, if there are parts you’ve seen
before, there would certainly be no harm in
reading them a second time but, in any event, much
is new.
OK, let’s go to the next page and take a look at
Golf Equipment.
